Core 4 Revision
Effective revision is key to academic success, but not all revision is created equal. According to the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF), students often rely on passive techniques like rereading or highlighting, which have limited impact on long-term retention. Instead, active revision strategies—such as self-testing, using flashcards, and spaced practice—are proven to significantly enhance learning outcomes
To support students in developing these skills, we have developed the "Core 4" which guides learners through planning, strategy instruction, modelling, memorisation, and guided practice using 4 different revision techniques that have been proven to be effective. The models below help students become more independent and confident in their revision, fostering deeper understanding and better exam performance.
By embedding these evidence-informed strategies into daily study habits, students can make their revision more effective and meaningful.
In school, we teach the students how to use these 4 techniques and actively promote them during lessons, in homework tasks and when it comes to exam/test revision. The documents and videos below have been seen by the students in class, however, we would encourage you to use them with your child to help support their home learning.
Please take the time to go through and find out more about each method so that you can better support your child.
