Below you can find the key documents that we share with students. These provide an overview of what we study, when in the key stage and how we assess students.

  • In Year 7 RE students study foundational theological concepts focusing in God’s revelation and how it shown throughout Salvation History:
    • Unit 1- Creation and Covenant explores general and special revelation, showing how humans can know God through reason and creation. 

    • Unit 2- Prophecy and Promise introduces the significance of Sacred Scripture as special revelation for Catholics. 

    • Unit 3- Galilee to Jersualem focuses on Jesus Christ, the incarnation, and the Trinity as the fullness of God’s revelation. 

    • Unit 4- Desert to Garden explore Christ’s continued presence through the sacraments (especially the Eucharist) 

    • Unit 5- To the ends of the earth explores the role of the Holy Spirit in the Church. 

    • Unit 6- Dialogue and Encounter studies the role of dialogue firstly within the Church and the use of Church Councils to establish Catholic dogma. 

  • Throughout the year the students encounter Islam and how Muslims are impacted by similar religious beliefs

  • In Year 8 RE students explore big questions about suffering and death, beginning with the Fall in Genesis 3.
    • Unit 1- Creation and Covenant explains the Church’s understanding of original sin and how it differs from personal sin. 

    • Unit 2- Prophecy and Promise examines God’s promise of a new covenant and a messiah to restore humanity’s faithfulness through the messages of the Prophets  

    • Unit 3- Galilee to Jerusalem focuses on Jesus’ teachings, parables, miracles, and treatment of sinners revealing signs of God’s final restoration. 

    • Unit 4- Desert to Garden explores the mystery of suffering and the problem of evil which is examined in light of Jesus’ passion, death, and Resurrection. 

    • Unit 5- To the ends of the earth allow students to reflect on the final end of suffering and death through Jesus’ Resurrection and the hope of eternal life. 

    • Unit 6- Dialogue and Encounter consider the relationships between the Catholic Church and other Christian Churches, and the ways that they both share beliefs and work together for the common good.  

  • Throughout the year students encounter Judaism and how Jews are impacted by similar religious beliefs
  • In Year 9 RE students examine the mystery of the human person, beginning with creation and the belief that humans are made in the Imago Dei.
    • Unit 1- Creation and Covenant explores the Church’s emphasis on the dignity and equality of men and women, addressing this in the light of ethics too  

    • Unit 2- Prophecy and Promise examines the role of women and the Blessed Virgin Mary in salvation history. 

    • Unit 3- Galilee to Jerusalem focuses on discipleship, individual vocations, and the Sacrament of Holy Orders in light of the Gospel of Mark. 

    • Unit 4- Desert to Garden explains the mystery of redemption, focusing on Christ’s sacrificial death and its connection to individual redemption from sin. 

    • Unit 5- To the ends of the earth reflects upon the belief of the Church as the ‘communion of saints’ and the mystical Body of Christ highlighting the human person as part of a community on earth and in heaven. 

    • Unit 6- Dialogue and Encounter reflects on the importance of meeting God in friend and neighbour and interfaith dialogue.   

  • Throughout the year students encounter Hinduism and how Hindus are impacted by similar religious beliefs.
