History - KS4
Students at SJB study History to empower them to understand a diverse range of people and societies in Britain and the wider world. This will enable them to develop an informed appreciation of current affairs, societal challenges and British values. Students will learn how to build concrete and convincing arguments and become confident at questioning the value of evidence through critical thinking. The range of topics we study are interesting, engaging, thought-provoking and support students’ understanding of other subjects.
At GCSE we study the AQA specification with the following units:
Paper One Section A: America, Inequality and Opportunity, 1920-1973
Paper One Section B: Conflict and Tensions between East and West, 1945-1972
Paper Two Section A: Britain: Health and the People, c1000AD to the present day
Paper Two Section B: Norman England, 1066-c.1100
For more information on these please see the exam specification below:
Students will sit two exams at the end of Year 11. Both exams have equal weighting and are 2 hours long. Students will be assessed on their knowledge and understanding, explanation, interpretation and source analysis skills.
Throughout their GCSE students will be continuously assessed in the following ways:
General Knowledge tests at the end of each unit
Exam-style assessments at the end of each unit
Yr 10 Exams
Yr 11 Mock Exams
