At SJB Religious Studies is a core subject and all students study it through to GCSE. Below you can find out more information about the course that our students study.

Edexcel GCSE Religious Studies A Specification
The course enables students to develop their knowledge and understanding of Catholic Christianity, exploring both beliefs practices, sources of wisdom and ways of expression of faith. Students also need to demonstrate an understanding of another religion which here at SJB is Judaism.
In year 10 and 11 students’ study 3 components of the GCSE course:
- Paper 1- Catholic Christianity (50% of the course)
- Beliefs and Teachings
- Practices
- Sources of Wisdom and Authority
- Forms of Expression and ways of life
- Paper 2 - Judaism (25% of the course)
- Beliefs and Teachings
- Practices
- Paper 3 - Philosophy and Ethics (25% of the course)
- Arguments for the existence of God
- Religious Teachings on families and relationships in the 21st century
Assessment throughout the course:
At the end of each unit of work students complete an assessment which follows the same KS4 examination style as well as having an end of year exam in both Years 10 and 11.
