GCSE students at SJB study Italian to become citizens of the world, equipped with transferable and communication skills, as well as an open-mindedness to other cultures.

Studying Italian at GCSE provides significant cognitive, academic and personal benefits, including enhanced problem-solving and critical thinking skills, improved cultural understanding and increased future career and travel opportunities. 

Languages make SJB students a more adaptable, confident and employable global citizen, capable of understanding and interacting with different cultures in an increasingly interconnected world:

  • Cognitive & Academic Benefits - students develop stronger listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, which can also improve your ability in English. Studying Italian also fosters creativity, adaptability, and resourcefulness by requiring you to understand new patterns and structures in the language. 
     
  • Cultural & Personal Growth - exploring and mastering Italian helps you become a more understanding and respectful global citizen by providing insight into Italian cultures, traditions and ways of life.

Year 10 and Year 11 GCSE Italian

  • Qualification: GCSE from 2016
  • Exam Board: AQA
  • Exam Assessment: 4 papers worth 25% each - Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing
  • Tiers - Foundation (Grades 1-5) and Higher (Grades 4-9)

Course Overview:
Students cover 3 themes across the course:

  • Identity and Culture
  • Local, national, international and global areas of interest
  • Current and future study and employment

Students will either sit Foundation (grades 1-5) or Higher tier (grades 4-9) and all exams are at the end of the course.
