Monitoring & eSafety

All student devices are monitored via the Lightspeed Filter and Alert systems that we employ which enables us to filter content and ensure students are not able to access inappropriate materials on school devices whether they are in school or at home. We also educate the students on the safe use of mobile devices through our PSHE and Form Time e-Safety programmes.

We would also strongly recommend all parents to set up “house rules” on the use of all devices within their home environment, and that they closely monitor their use. This includes the school iPads as well as any other devices their child has access to such as computer consoles and mobile phones! More guidance on mobile phones can be found here.

There are a many different ways that parents can monitor their child’s internet usage both on their iPads and also on their other devices. Below we have some details on a few systems that can support parents in doing this.

Jamf Parent is available free to all parents - once downloaded you can monitor and restrict your child's school iPad use outside school hours. We strongly encourage all parents to engage with this facility and to take control of when and how their child is using their school device at home.

	Jamf Parent  This is a free iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Android app that allows you to manage your children's school-issued mobile devices. All iPads provided by SJB have this app installed on it for you to use. Using Jamf Parent, you can restrict and allow apps and device functionality on your children's devices. Please note Jamf Parent management only works during the evening and weekend and not during school hours (Mon-Fri 8-3.30) Jamf Parent Guide - this guide goes through everything from installation to how to use the app. Please note, our students do not have access to 'self-service' which means you will need to follow this section of the guide to connect to their iPad.   Jamf Parent Guide (Downloadable app user guide)
	ScreenTime on Mac/iPad/iPhone* If your child does have an Apple iPhone then we would strongly recommend setting up parent controls and using the screentime app to monitor usage.
