Discovering Talents, Exploring Futures, Fulfilling Potential
"The mission of SJB is to be a Catholic School where every individual is highly valued and where care and concern for others is central to our work. All our students are expected to achieve their full potential and leave us ready to make a positive contribution to society."
At St John the Baptist School, we believe that every student is uniquely gifted and called to fulfil their God-given potential. Rooted in our Catholic ethos, Vision for Learning and the principles of Catholic Social Teaching, our Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) programme supports students in recognising their strengths, exploring future opportunities and making informed decisions about their education, training and career pathways.
We recognise that careers education is about much more than choosing a job. It is about helping young people to develop the knowledge, skills, confidence and aspirations needed to thrive in an ever-changing world and to use their gifts in service of others and the common good.
Our careers programme is designed to:
- Raise aspirations and broaden horizons.
- Help students understand the world of work.
- Develop employability and enterprise skills.
- Provide impartial careers information, advice and guidance.
- Support students in making informed choices at key transition points.
- Introduce students to a wide range of education, training and employment pathways.
- Promote equality of opportunity and challenge stereotypes.
- Prepare students for successful futures in education, employment and adult life.
Our Careers Programme
Our careers programme is structured around the Gatsby Benchmarks of Good Career Guidance and supports students from Year 7 through to Year 13.
Students benefit from:
- Careers education through PSHE and curriculum learning.

- Careers fairs and careers mornings.

The programme is reviewed annually to ensure it remains relevant, ambitious and responsive to the needs of our students.
In accordance with statutory guidance, students are provided with opportunities to learn about a broad range of academic, vocational and technical pathways.
