Enrichment

Why participate in enrichment?

It is important to develop new skills, discover your passions, and broaden your experiences - your qualifications will get you through the door, it is your character that will lead you to great things! Our enrichment programme helps you meet new people, build confidence, and gain valuable experiences that will all develop you as you grow into a young adult and venture out into the world beyond Sixth Form College.

Our super-curricular programme runs throughout the week and on a Wednesday afternoon. All students are invited to participate and supported in choosing suitable activities from a wide range of options. Wherever possible we tailor our offer year-on-year to reflect the interests of our students.

 
Our programme currently includes:
  • Sports Academies with professional coaching (Netball, Basketball, Football, Rugby)
  • Extended Project Qualification (EPQs)
  • Volunteering at a local primary school
  • Volunteering at a local community centre / charity
  • Big Issues – engaging with and debating current affairs
  • Digital media and social media production
  • Gym
  • Multi-sports
  • Mentoring younger students
  • Sports coaching
  • Running extra-curriulcar clubs for Key Stage 3
  • Supporting in main school lessons
  • Student Leadership Team
  • Careers talks and seminars
 
Leadership Opportunities

There are a wide variety of leadership opportunities at SJB which reflect the priorities according to the cohort. The College Leadership Team are elected in the second half of the Autumn Term to ensure that all students settle into their courses before participating in the elections. Once elected their term runs January to January.

Here are just a few examples of how you can get involved:

  • Sixth Form College Committee; including the roles of Head Boy and Head Girl, Deputy Head Boy and Deputy Head Girl, and Social Representatives.
  • Mentoring programme. Sixth Former ‘buddies’ mentoring younger students.
  • Wider School Leadership. Sixth Formers lead and support our School Leaders from younger years. School Teams to be led include Charities, Environment, Teaching & Learning, Spiritual Life, House Captains, Wellbeing, Digital Leaders.
  • Sports Leaders lead sports clubs for younger years, assist or lead coaching for younger years.
  • Stewardship; supporting our school and local community with break duties, litter picking, car-parking for events and functions, and meeting, touring with and talking to visitors.
 
A&B Lourdes Pilgrimage

The Diocese of Arundel and Brighton organises an annual pilgrimage to Lourdes during the summer holidays. We encourage our students to take part as helpers, as it is a rewarding experience of faith, friendship, and service. Many students describe the pilgrimage as a memorable opportunity to support others, grow in confidence, and make lasting friendships.
